Ryan Foster has been racing since the age of 8. His career started with Red Bluff Outlaw Sprint Karts running on dirt. He earned his first track division championship by age 9. The Father/Son team of Steve and Ryan quickly moved up to karts with more horsepower and expanded to racing up and down the west coast. Six additional championships followed all before the age of 15. That year he had won the Golden State Championship, in which he had to start in the back of the E-main and pass over 50 karts to win.
By the end of 1997, before his 16th birthday, he had over 124 wins out of 296 main events under his belt. That year, despite never having run asphalt before, let alone a late model car, he got the opportunity most drivers only dream of - a full ride in the Late Model series. Foster made his debut at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, CA. The historic track was frequented by Mike Skinner, Ron Hornaday, Mike Chase, Derrike Cope, and many more during their careers. As history has shown it didn't take long for the young gun to get the hang of racing at this level.
In Ryan's second race ever in the late model he had won the main event, passing the 16-time track champion to become the youngest driver ever to win at the track. He proceeded to win Rookie of the Year and ran a limited NSWFT series to get his feet wet.
Financial constraints led Foster to investigate the very competitive INEX Legend car circuit. In the 1999-2000 season, he won 23 out of 26 Main Events at seven different race tracks including the Las Vegas Bull Ring, winning over Kyle Busch at every appearance. That year Foster added three more Track Championships to his resume.
By the end of 2000, he had won the California State Championship title, and was getting more determined then ever. He then received another late model ride and participated in the Bud Shoot out Series in 2001-2002, winning 4 main events out of 8 races and again took Rookie of the Year status.
In 2002-2004, Foster advanced to the very competitive Davey Hamilton's Wild West Shootout SRL series. The Father /son team was even more industrious. Dad, Steve, building the motors, Ryan doing all his own Chassis set-up, fabricating, and crew chiefing. The Foster team claimed 5 Main Event Wins, fifteen Top 5's, nineteen Top 10's, 5 Pole Position Awards, Rookie of the year, 2nd in the Championship - all this with having missed one race.
To add to the experience, the decision to build a new car in the middle of the year, with the help of sponsors, proved to be a gutsy but rewarding move. With a three week break between races, Ryan and crew built a brand new NSWFT car from the frame up in less than 2 weeks. The team took the car on an 8 hour tow to Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield. They pulled the car out of the trailer qualified 3rd, won the dash, and won the main.
In 2005 the team was running on a "race by race" funding contingency. Foster began running NASCAR Elite Southwest Series. After just three races all with top ten finishes and two PowerAde Hard Charger awards in his first race Foster led the "Sunoco Rookie of the Year" bout with a top 5 finish. Ryan again proved that his aggressive, determined, serious, compassionate way of racing is paying off.
2006 saw a limited race schedule for the Foster team. He ran 4 races with the West Series all with top five finishes and 2 wins. In October Foster returned to his home track in Anderson to dominate the 2006 Win-River Open Show Championship and take home the win. Foster ran 2 SRL races with a fantastic showing of 1 win, one top five finishes
2007 will prove to be the most exciting season yet. With a new collaboration with Golden Gate Racing and the Richard Childress Driver Development Program Foster is optimally poised to dominate the Grand National series.
What sets Ryan Foster apart from the rest? He will do what ever it takes to win... He doesn't just carry the helmet.. he knows how hard the teams work.... And is part of the team not just the driver.
